'I'm obsessed with TV but eight cast members leaving beloved franchise is a bad sign' - Opinion

Mid-April came as a bit of a shocker to Bravo fans as, not one or two, but eight Real Housewives firings were announced. It’s a sad time for some viewers of the Housewives as we’re not waving goodbye to any old newbies – some real OGs of the franchise aren’t returning next season.

Usually, when a Real Housewives cast announcement is made, there’s excitement in the air. We’re all wondering who’s going to get a peach, diamond, orange, or champagne flute this time around. But, this April, it’s no buzz of a cast announcement in the air but a sorry wave goodbye to some Bravo favorites.

Real Housewives firings

This year has been an interesting one in the Bravosphere for a lot of reasons.

Some Bravolebrities are welcoming babies, others are getting divorced, and some are making debuts on other reality TV shows.

While some Real Housewives’ moves are predictable, it’s safe to say no one could’ve known there’d be eight firings in such a short space of time this Spring.

In one fell swoop, Crystal Minkoff, Kandi Burruss, Robyn Dixon, Candiace Dilliard-Bassett, Monica Garcia, Sanya Richards-Ross, Marlo Hampton, and Anne-Marie Wiley are all saying ‘Sayonara’ to their Real Housewives roles.

It’s a really bad sign

With so many axings at once, I know we can’t paint all of them with the same brush.

Each of the Real Housewives leaving their respective shows are bowing out for different reasons.

When it comes to Monica Garcia’s exit, I think it’s safe to say the majority of fans can live with it.

Although, Rihanna did defend the RHOSLC star in a recent interview. She said if Tom Sandoval could return to Vanderpump Rules, then why wouldn’t Monica remain a Housewife?

But, with some of the cast members leaving their shows, like long-standing Real Housewives Of Atlanta star Kandi Burruss, it just doesn’t seem right that she’ll be gone.

Speaking to Andy Cohen this April, Kandi said on Radio Andy she was “feeling free” now that she’s not coming back to RHOA. But, she was told by Cynthia Bailey she “won’t feel it until the show starts airing.”

She added how she’s “used to doing it for 14 years,” to which Andy said it was “part of the cycle of her year,” normally.

RHOA’s Marlo Hampton is also getting the axe. But, haven’t fans been enjoying seeing her live her best Munty life now she’s got a peach?

We’ll allow RHOP’s Candiace Dilliard-Bassett a pass because she’s set to embark on motherhood, which everyone is super excited about for her.

But, a lot of the ladies, including RHOBH’s Crystal Minkoff, will be sorely missed.

On one hand, it seems like casting directors get what fans are after. Tamra Judge returning to The Real Housewives of Orange County is a perfect example. I mean, who wouldn’t want to see the Tres Amigas reunited?

But, with some of the firings, it just seems unfair that such big names and personalities would be leaving. And, more importantly, it seems like casting just doesn’t get what fans want to see on Housewives anymore.
