Report: Man United considering move for 25-year-old Serie A centre-back who is brilliant at passing

Manchester United are now said to be showing interest in a Serie A centre-back who is gaining a growing reputation across Europe.

Whether Erik ten Hag is in charge or not next season, Man United have some incredibly important squad building to do.

Right now, their playing staff seems to be caught between several ideas, with no clear direction.

Some fans may feel as if a new manager needs to be in place to oversee such an overhaul, but with a decision seemingly yet to be made, planning will have begun regardless.

And amongst all the problematic positions for United this season, perhaps central defence has been the biggest issue.

When all are fit, Raphael Varane and Lisandro Martinez are a strong duo, equipped to cope with almost any attacking threat.

However, the pair simply haven’t been able to string a run of games together, each suffering with unfortunate injuries across the season.

And although the likes of Willy Kambwala have done well in moments, the area can definitely be improved.

Manchester United now interested in Colombian Serie A centre-back Jhon Lucumi

That being said, according to a report by Claro Sports, Man United are now considering a move for Bologna defender Jhon Lucumi.

The 25-year-old, who joined the club from KRC Genk in Belgium back in 2022, now has 57 appearances in Serie A.

And via this information, Atletico Madrid are very keen on buying Lucumi this summer, who is attracting attention because of his excellent passing at the back.

The Spanish side are only thought to be considering an offer of around £11m, a very reasonable price in this market.

And as well as Juventus, Manchester United are said to have expressed their interest in a deal.

Via FBref, John Lucumi does have the highest pass completion percentage (93%) of any player in the Serie A this season.

The centre-back is among the leaders in all passing categories, proving his credentials for a top European side.

And when you consider how strong Takehiro Tomiyasu has proved for Arsenal in the Premier League since signing, there shouldn’t be any reservations about the defender’s ability to step up from Bologna.

All that being said, Rio Ferdinand couldn’t quite believe one thing Erik ten Hag did in Sunday’s semi-final.
