UK intel: Russian advance in eastern Ukraine could threaten Vulhedar

Russia's capture of the village of Novomykhailivka in eastern Ukraine could threaten the key town of Vulhedar, the UK Ministry of Defence (MoD) said Tuesday.

Russian forces reportedly took full control of Novomykhailivka in the Donetsk region on Monday. According to Ukrainian military sources, Russia deployed 30,000 soldiers in the operation.

In its daily intelligence update on X, formerly Twitter, the MoD said the situation in Novomykhailivka "demonstrates the slow but incremental advances Russian forces are making."

Further advances north of Vulhedar could threaten Ukraine's position in the town, a key stronghold which has "caused extremely high casualties for Russian ground forces."

Ukraine is feeling the strain of more than two years of war since the Russian invasion in February 2022.
