Report: Tottenham now set to make £17m bid to sign midfielder with 29 goal involvements this season

Tottenham Hotspur are reportedly set to make a bid to sign a midfielder who’s registered 19 goal involvements this season.

It’s no secret that Spurs are in the market for a new man in the middle of the park this summer.

Ange Postecoglou has struggled to find the right balance in midfield of late, with James Maddison and Yves Bissouma struggling for form.

Maddison’s drop-off since his return from an ankle injury in January has been a cause for concern.

The 27-year-old recently admitted he’s yet to reach the heights he hit during the early stages of the season.

The Englishman managed three goals and five assists in his first 11 Premier League games for the club. But he’s added just three goal involvements to that tally since January.

Lucas Bergvall is set to join Spurs this summer and has had a hand in eight goals in 10 games for Djurgarden this season.

But at 18, the Swedish talent may take some time to settle in at Tottenham and Postecoglou’s side are weighing up other options in midfield.

Tottenham set to bid for midfielder

According to FotoMac, Tottenham are set to move for Fenerbahce star Sebastian Szymanski this summer.

It’s claimed that Spurs and Sevilla are the ‘most serious’ about signing the Poland international.

Indeed, Tottenham are ready to launch a €20 million (£17.2 million) bid to land the 24-year-old.

Szymanski’s incredible stats

Spurs are lacking a suitable alternative to Maddison, with Giovani Lo Celso often struggling with persistent injuries.

The Argentine is also reportedly eyeing a summer exit, which could boost Tottenham’s funds with Atletico Madrid said to be keen.

Should Spurs firm up their interest in Szymanski, they would be getting a player who is capable of impacting games in the final third.

The midfielder has netted 12 times and provided 17 assists in 50 appearances for Fenerbahçe this term.

Whether or not Spurs are in need of another attack-minded midfielder is up for debate.

Maddison is bound to rediscover his best form sooner rather than later and they are lacking a suitable No6 at the moment.
