Seven tips to avoid a bad hair day

Hair stylist Christopher Wenzel aka Blowout Professor believes you can have a good hair day always by being mindful of a few common mistakes while others require a bit more work.

Christopher is a professional hair stylist and owner of a hair salon called Live Love Locks. He goes by the handle Blowout Professor on YouTube with over 643,000 subscribers. In one of his videos, Chris talks about factors that contribute to a bad hair day and what needs to be done to avoid it.

Post-hair color care

Not taking care of your hair after getting it colored is one of the biggest reasons you may have a bad hair day.

The hairstylist says coloring usually makes your hair dry, so you must always wear a hair mask before hitting the shower and repeat it after a week to keep your hair smooth and retain moisture.

Never go to bed with wet hair

A lot of people tend to hit the sack soon after showering, which is not good for the hair. The water in the hair causes the bonds to break, thus making it more fragile and breakable.

Furthermore, you will wake up to your hair in all directions as it would have taken a certain shape overnight. Chris says this is how the overnight curls hack works. So, if you don’t have the time or energy to style your hair afterward, wash your hair in the morning instead.

Don’t style your hair naked

The hairstylist understands using multiple hair products can be intimidating, but styling naked hair means only one thing – a bad hair day.

He suggests sticking to the recommended product list which can be found on his channel and using the necessary products while styling your hair.

Humidity is bad for your hair

It doesn’t matter how well your hair has been styled, but exposing it to humidity on a hot day is guaranteed damage.

Chris suggests staying in or spending as much time as possible in air conditioning as it prevents your hair from becoming frizzy.

Tweak your strategy

You can experience a bad hair day by failing to blow dry it the correct way. Chris says most people blow dry only the top portion of their hair and leave the tips unattended and others don’t pay much attention to the extra hair strands hanging from the below when you dry from the top, thus making your hair look odd.

Sloppy sleeping

Not only does your sleeping position impact your health, but it can result in bad hair too.

For those with long hair, Chris suggests using a bonnet to cover the head while sleeping, so it doesn’t result in a weird split at the back of your hair.

Early bird special

Always spend at least 45 seconds to polish your hair as soon as you wake up to ensure it stays well for the rest of the day.

The hairstylist recommends using the detangling brush for a few seconds on your hair before rubbing a tiny amount of oil across its length. However, avoid using a comb of any kind first thing in the morning.

Don’t strangle your hair

Using tight hair ties to keep your hair in a bun overnight causes an invisible bubble, which becomes evident when you wake up.

Therefore, always use loose scrunchies to make a bun that which strangle your hair.
