Gardeners rave about 'brilliant' Home Bargains buy for removing green algae on patio

By Liam Gilliver

After the miserable winter we've endured, our gardens may be looking a little shabby at the moment.

A lack of sunlight and poor drainage is the perfect combination for algae and even mould to grow along our decking and patios - tarnishing them an unpleasant shade of green. Lifting the pesky stuff usually takes hours and hours of scrubbing - or requires a professional to come around and power wash the stains away, which can be costly.

However, gardening enthusiasts have found an 'incredible' solution that calls for no elbow grease whatsoever and will prevent future algae growing. Plus, it won't break the bank.

Taking to the popular Hinch Army Cleaning Tips Facebook page, one gardener was desperate to fix her algae-ridden backyard. "I've used Wet and Forget and Wickes' own version successfully on my white render but it's not worked on my greened decking and nor has pressure washing," she wrote.

"Are there any particular brands of algae remover you could recommend for decking, fence panels and treated sleepers (not yet painted)." Many users flocked to the comments section to recommend Spear and Jackson's Spray & Leave. "Spear & Jackson - [it's] brilliant!" one user raved.

Another agreed, commenting: "Yes, I used this on my wood decking..." The highly-reviewed product costs just £6.99 from Home Bargains but is currently out of stock. However, the four-litre bottle, which comes with a 'long hose' is available for £7.99 at The Range.

If your garden has also become a breeding ground for moss, fear not, as gardeners have also been hailing the Richard Jackson Flowe Power Moss Remover and Lawn Feeder. Taking to the Gardening UK Facebook page, which has more than 150,000 members, one woman wanted to get rid of the stubborn weed without having to spend endless hours raking it from her grass.

"Richard Jacksons do one that is brilliant," one user raved. "Quickly after I used it the moss disappeared from my lawn." Another agreed, commenting: "I used Richard Jackson moss killer. It is great and does the job with no need to rake."

You can pick up Richard Jackson Flower Power Moss Remover and Lawn Feeder from a range of online retailers and perhaps even your local garden centre. Amazon is currently selling a 5kg bag for £29.99 - which can treat up to 100 square meters of grass.
