She explained the chemistry testing is "actually the worst way to do it". She told V Magazine: "I was told, 'We have ten guys coming today and you're cast. Aren't you excited to make out with all of them?' And I thought, 'Is there something wrong with me?' because I wasn't excited. I thought it sounded gross," she explained.

Anne told the outlet she "got on with it" for the sake of her career, adding: "I was so young and terribly aware how easy it was to lose everything by being labelled 'difficult,' so I just pretended I was excited and got on with it. It wasn't a power play, no one was trying to be awful or hurt me. It was just a very different time and now we know better."

After that, she vowed to make changes, scrapping the chemistry tests when it came to her own movies. For her upcoming comedy The Idea of You, Anne had her potential romantic co-star choose a song before dancing with her, in character.

Telling the outlet of the experience, she said that Mary & George actor Nicholas Galitzine picked a tune by The Alabama Shakes and that she immediately felt a spark together. Her new show, in which she plays a mother, airs on Prime Video on May 2.

It comes after Anne shocked fans with a "brand new face" as the star unveiled her new dramatic transformation in the edgy new gender-bending shoot for V Magazine. She looked unrecognisable as she stepped out with a bold masculine look.

She showed off her defined cheekbones, wrinkle-free skin, and sharp jawline as she expertly posed in the new stylish couture collection. In the shoot, Anne debuted her brand new haircut chopping off her long brunette locks and opting for a short, fresh pixie cut. In the snaps, she stepped out of her comfort zone and modelled in both his and her looks for the collection. Speaking on the inspiration behind the shoot, Anne said: "I mentioned [to Stephen Gan] how much I love menswear and how I am drawn to the visual language of masculine/feminine. And the shoot sort of grew out from there."
