Report: 57-year-old manager will sign 3-year deal with West Ham when Moyes leaves this summer

One man in particular seems to be leading the race to become the new West Ham United manager, when David Moyes leaves of course.

Things have gone horribly wrong for West Ham boss David Moyes since the turn of the year but let’s not feel sorry for him – his problems are all his own making.

Those inside the London Stadium are still peddling the narrative that Moyes’s future will not be decided until the season has finished.

I just can’t see how this could possibly be true though. Moyes is quite clearly done at West Ham. He’s a dead man walking and is clearly incapable of taking us to the next level.

The terrible football that has been implemented by the Scot, and the shocking collapse from his team in 2024, has ensured that his future will lie away from the London Stadium.

Now West Ham appear to be close to appointing his successor…

Manager will sign 3-year deal with West Ham when Moyes leaves

It seems as though the Hammers owners are moving into place to bring in a long-term replacement for Moyes.

However, the name being strongly linked with us really does seem to be rather underwhelming to say the least.

According to Sempre Milan, currently out of work Julen Lopetegui will join West Ham on a three-year deal this summer. That’s quite an emphatic claim isn’t it! It’s just a shame that our owners aren’t being more ambitious.

Jacob Steinberg refuted claims that the Hammers are in advanced talks to appoint the former Wolves boss yesterday. However, even more concrete rumours have surfaced again this afternoon.

If this does turn out to be true, and Lopetegui takes over from Moyes, I can’t say that I’ll be filled with much excitement.

I will back him, of course I will. I just don’t envisage a scenario whereby Lopetegui takes us on to the next level.

The 57-year-old is well known for being a pragmatist, and his teams usually play a fairly slow-paced style of football.

I want someone to come in and take the bull by the horns, by transforming us into a really attractive footballing side.

I’m sorry, but Lopetegui is not the mane we need to do exactly that. When Moyes leaves West Ham, I would love to see someone like Arne Slot or Paulo Fonseca replace him.
