‘Scary’: Anthony Gordon says one Man City star is actually so hard to play against

Anthony Gordon has highlighted one Manchester City player he thinks is so hard to come up against.

Having made 111 Premier League appearances for Everton and Newcastle United, the winger has faced off against his fair share of opposition players.

Now though, nearing the end of his first full season at the Tyneside club, the 23-year-old has shared his thoughts on one particular figure he finds it rather daunting to battle against on the pitch.

Speaking in a recent edition of The Overlap with Gary Neville, Gordon had this to say when asked which opponent he doesn’t like playing against.

He said: Kyle Walker. Every time I just know it’s constantly going to be a hard game.

“I wouldn’t say dread because I look forward to the competition and those games the most, that’s actually when I play my best, but another part of me thinks there’s a lot of running involved here.”

When Neville then said how much he’d have loved to have had Walker’s pace when he was a player, Gordon described the City star’s speed as “scary.”

Gordon has come up against Walker on five occasions and lost all five games.

In fact, out of those five games, Gordon’s side have only been able to score two goals, both of which came in Newcastle’s 3-2 defeat to City in the Premier League back in January.

In that game, the winger scored Newcastle’s second goal of the game when he came face to face with Walker but was able to get a shot off that ultimately found the back of the net.

Gordon isn’t the first player to highlight Kyle Walker as being a tough opponent

These recent comments from the 23-year-old isn’t the first instance where a player has highlighted how difficult it is to play against Walker.

Back in January, Nathan Redmond named the right-back as the toughest opponent he’s ever battled with.

To give a clearer insight into what makes the 33-year-old such a feared figure by attacking players, Pep Guardiola said back in July that “[as] a footballer, [he] has a genetic [quality that] is incomparable, physicalities, something unique.”

This shows why Gordon said that he knows whenever he’s playing against Walker, he’s going to have to do a lot of running to get the best of the defender.
