'Keen': Fabrizio Romano says 45-year-old manager now really wants to replace Jurgen Klopp at Liverpool

Fabrizio Romano has shared one manager’s current stance on becoming the next Liverpool boss.

The Reds’ search for a new manager has been a rollercoaster ride over the last month or so, hasn’t it?

Xabi Alonso was Liverpool’s priority target, but he decided against moving to Anfield. Then, Ruben Amorim emerged as the favourite, but those links have died down over the last 24 hours as well.

Liverpool are still on the lookout for Jurgen Klopp‘s successor, and a few new names have been linked over the last few days.

Fabrizio Romano has now shared the latest on one of them.

Fabrizio Romano reveals Arne Slot’s stance on becoming next Liverpool manager

Arne Slot is the new name on Liverpool’s wish list.

Reports have revealed today that the 45-year-old, who is currently at the helm at Feyenoord in the Netherlands, is the frontrunner for the Anfield hot seat.

Fabrizio Romano then claimed that Liverpool have held a direct conversation with Slot over the job and have already scheduled another chat with him.

Liverpool, however, face competition for Slot’s signature, with reports claiming that Barcelona and AC Milan want the Dutchman, but it’s Bayern Munich who are making a serious push to get him.

The last thing Michael Edwards and Richard Hughes want is to miss out on another one of their key targets, but Romano has shared a positive update now.

The Italian journalist has revealed that Slot is ‘keen’ on the Liverpool job, which is a big boost for the Reds.

Romano tweeted: “One more direct contact will take place soon between Arne Slot and Liverpool board to discuss more key points of the project.

“Slot, keen on Liverpool job and concrete option as he’s highly rated by #LFC.”

How much Liverpool will have to pay to get Arne Slot

Arne Slot has been at Feyenoord since the summer of 2021, and he has done a phenomenal job there.

The 45-year-old led his side to the Eredivisie title last season and has also managed to win the Dutch Cup this time around.

Slot is the real deal, and the fact that the likes of Tottenham Hotspur and Chelsea both wanted to appoint him last year should tell you how highly he is rated.

The Dutchman is under contract at Feyenoord until the summer of 2026, which means Liverpool will have to pay a compensation fee if they want to get him.

The Times reveal today that there is no release clause in Slot’s deal, but he should be available for a fee less than £8.6 million (€10m) this summer.
