’Strong as a Lion’: Pau Torres and Matty Cash say one Aston Villa teammate is 'so good'

What a week it has been for Aston Villa after wins against Arsenal, progression in Europe and then beating Bournemouth.

Pau Torres and Matty Cash were part of all those matches, including the latter scoring a crucial goal that sent the tie against Lille to extra-time and everyone knows the rest.

Understandably so, Aston Villa fans are on a high because securing Champions League football is now getting closer.

But Villa themselves increased the mood in the camp by announcing on Tuesday that manager Unai Emery has extended his contract.

This now puts an end to any talk of Emery leaving for certain high-profile jobs that will be available this summer – Barcelona, Bayern Munich and Liverpool.

The Spaniard has done a remarkable job at Villa Park and also helped improve many, many players at the club.

One of them includes goalscoring – and assist – machine Ollie Watkins, who was at it again against Bournemouth on Sunday.

That’s 12 assists for the season for the Villa hitman, with Pau Torres and Matty Cash lauding the player on Instagram.

It was unfortunate that the Euro 2024 hopeful didn’t get a goal because his performance was very much deserving of it.

Ollie Watkins’ best-ever display?

It could be argued that Watkins’ performance against Bournemouth was probably his best-ever display since moving to the Midlands.

Everything he did. From his hold-up play, link-up play, driving at the defence and finding the right pass, was just outrageous.

There is no doubt that his performance was deserving of a goal, and when the scores were 3-1, he was doing everything to put the ball into the back of the net, but it just wasn’t happening.

But now attention has to turn to Chelsea. Win that and Villa go nine clear of Spurs in fourth.

Yes, Ange Postecoglou’s side will have three games in hand, but they are against Arsenal, Chelsea and then Liverpool at Anfield.
