The US Senate has approved a bill to fund military aid to Ukraine for $60 billion. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy and Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal thanked the senators for the important decision for the defense capability of our country, according to the Telegram of the head of state.
Zelenskyy thanked the US Senate for approving vital aid to Ukraine.
"Thank you to Majority Leader Chuck Schumer and Republican Leader Mitch McConnell for their decisive leadership in advancing this bipartisan bill, as well as to all American senators from both parties who voted for it. This vote strengthens America's role as a beacon of democracy and leader of the free world," the head of state wrote.
The President also thanked all Americans who continue to support Ukraine and understand that the historic significance of this bill goes beyond politics.
The head of state noted that he appreciates the support of US President Joe Biden and added that he looks forward to the quick signing of the bill and the provision of the next package of military aid, which will match the determination I always feel in our negotiations.
"Ukraine's long-range capabilities, artillery, and air defense are extremely important tools for the fastest restoration of a just peace," Zelenskyy added.
Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal also reacted to the momentous decision of the upper house of the US Congress.
He noted that during his communication with senators in the US last week, including with Democratic Majority Leader Chuck Schumer, he received assurances that support for Ukraine is unquestionable and the bill will be passed as soon as possible.
"Thank you for keeping your word, and we count on the continued strong support from the US for peace and security in Europe," Shmyhal wrote.
Aid from the US to Ukraine
The provision of assistance to Ukraine in the US has been delayed for several months, as Speaker of the House Mike Johnson refused to bring the bill to a vote.
Last week, the House of Representatives finally passed the bill to fund aid to Ukraine.
On April 24 in Kyiv (April 23 local time in Washington), the bill on assistance was approved by the US Congress Senate. The document will now be sent to President Joe Biden for signature.
