'It's a mismatch': Ally McCoist says two Arsenal players looked so much better than Enzo Fernandez last night

Ally McCoist feels there was a ‘mismatch’ in midfield during last night’s clash between Arsenal and Chelsea.

Arsenal moved three points clear at the top of the Premier League table with a convincing 5-0 win over Chelsea on Tuesday evening.

Mikel Arteta’s side turned on the style in the second half after leading 1-0 at the break thanks to Leandro Trossard’s opener.

Both Kai Havertz and Ben White were at the double, with Arsenal putting in a breathtaking attacking display at the Emirates.

It was complete dominance from the Gunners after the break and it’s fair to say that was largely down to their midfield.

And Ally McCoist wasn’t impressed with two Chelsea players, claiming Declan Rice and Martin Odegaard completely outshone them last night.

McCoist says Arsenal duo were so much better than Enzo Fernandez and Moises Caicedo

Speaking during TNT Sports’ coverage of the game, McCoist highlighted the performances of Rice and Odegaard in midfield.

The Scotsman claimed it was a complete ‘mismatch’ against Moises Caicedo and Enzo Fernandez.

“I have to point out again, nearly a quarter of a billion pounds for Fernandez and Caicedo,” McCoist said. “Look at the other two, Odegaard and Rice, it’s a mismatch.”

It’s difficult to disagree with McCoist’s verdict, particularly after Chelsea’s second-half display.

The Blues had their moments in the first half and certainly had the opportunities to head into the break on level terms.

But after Arsenal stepped things up in the second period, Mauricio Pochettino’s side simply had no answers.

Rice and Odegaard proving to be inspired signings for Arsenal

When you look at what Arsenal paid for their midfield duo in comparison to Chelsea, it’s obvious which side have got the better deal.

The Blues paid a British record £115.)million.) to land Caicedo last summer and also snapped up Fernandez for £106.8 million back in January last year.

Of course, Arsenal also went big to land Rice as they parted with £105 million to sign the former West Ham skipper.

But at this stage, Rice is certainly proving to be worth the fee, whereas the same cannot be said for Fernandez and Caicedo.
