'Very unorthodox': BBC pundit says Arsenal actually have a player who reminds him of Thomas Muller

Glenn Murray has suggested that Arsenal have a very unorthodox player who actually reminds him of Thomas Muller.

Arsenal have put themselves in a fantastic position in the Premier League title race. The Gunners thrashed Chelsea 5-0 on Tuesday night to move four points clear of Manchester City.

Of course, many were talking about the brace from Ben White during the second-half.

But there was another player who achieved something for the first time in their Arsenal career against the Blues.

Kai Havertz compared with Thomas Muller

Kai Havertz scored twice in a game for the first time for the Gunners – against his former club. It had appeared that it may prove to be a frustrating night for the German.

Havertz left Mikel Arteta with his head in hands at one stage during the first-half after deciding to pass to Declan Rice when he had a golden opportunity to shoot.

The 24-year-old has come in for plenty of criticism throughout the season. And heading into Tuesday, he had scored one goal in his previous seven appearances.

Speaking on BBC Radio Five Live (broadcast on 23/4; 20:28), Glenn Murray suggested that Havertz reminds him of a Bayern Munich great.

“Talking about Kai Havertz though, I would say he’s very unorthodox, and I agree with Izzy, he’s not quite got that cutting edge. But he’s like a Thomas Muller for me. Always in the right place, links it up really well, just needs to add more goals to his game,” he said.

Arsenal star doing his best to silence crucial debate for the summer

Of course, Havertz would go on to prove a point in the second-half. He did score twice as Arsenal blew Chelsea away.

But you can definitely understand the comparison. Muller is one of those players who has made himself absolutely vital for Bayern over the years without having a traditional role in the side.

Havertz has definitely looked at his best when he is leading the line for Arsenal. However, he does not appear to be the striker who is going to score 30 goals in a season – which may be something the Gunners have to address in the summer.

And in all honesty, he does not appear to be as influential in other areas of the pitch.

Thankfully for Arteta, he is showing how impressive he can be up front right now. And Arsenal have now put all of the pressure back on Manchester City.
