'I can only ask': Sean Dyche makes one request to Everton fans ahead of Merseyside derby tonight

Sean Dyche has shared one thing he wants to happen again ahead of Everton’s Premier League clash against Liverpool tonight.

Evertonians are more than aware of what’s at stake. A victory would put the Toffees in a strong position to retain their Premier League status.

There’s also the added narrative surrounding Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool farewell tour. Blues would love nothing more than to put a severe dent into the Reds’ title bid.

A defeat for Klopp’s men would probably prove fatal, considering Manchester City and Arsenal’s relentless form of late.

Dyche’s side are coming off a rare victory, and the Everton boss has called on the Goodison Park faithful ahead of Wednesday’s fixture.

Speaking ahead of the Merseyside Derby clash, the Everton boss highlighted the crowd’s positive impact during Sunday’s 2-0 win over Nottingham Forest.

“[Sunday] was fantastic, I thought,” he said.

“Because it’s not easy, myself and the team were way off and let ourselves down against Chelsea. To respond with fans being in full voice and behind us was a brilliant thing – I couldn’t be more pleased with that side. And the players delivering a performance.

“Very strong performance physically and giving everything for the shirt. I said that was one thing I could guarantee. That was obviously not on show in the previous game but it was against Forest.”

Dyche added: “The stats back that, the physical stats and the amount of ground covered. The willingness and desire to work hard for the team and for the badge.

“The crowd saw that and they definitely had an effect from the off. Straight away, the positivity and the feel in the stadium was spot on and I can only ask for more of that.”

What has Jurgen Klopp said ahead of the Merseyside Derby this evening?

The German will be under no illusions heading across Stanley Park. Given the relentless nature of the Reds’ title rivals, anything less than three points will be a huge blow.

Unsurprisingly, Klopp’s record against Everton is impressive, but the 56-year-old knows what to expect at Goodison Park.

The Liverpool boss said: “Goodison Park can create quite a good atmosphere as well. When they play Liverpool, it’s about more than the three points.”

Everton could look to take advantage of their rivals’ must-win mentality. The likes of Dwight McNeil and Abdoulaye Doucouré could prove to be vital when the ball is turned over.
