Israel pummels Gaza as Rafah ground invasion looms

Gaza sustained further shelling overnight Tuesday, with residents in the northern towns of Beit Lahia, Beit Hanoun, and Jabalia reporting some of the heaviest attacks since the outbreak of war over six months ago.

Three citizens were killed and dozens injured by strikes on Abu Abu Araban School in Nuseirat camp in the central Gaza Strip, Palestinian news agency Wafa reported.

The Israeli army said its jets struck southern Gaza including "two Hamas launch posts" overnight on Tuesday, as well as attacking "over 50 targets" in central Gaza. Residents from Bureij refugee camp reported heavy bombardment, and two people were wounded from an air strike hitting farmland in central Gaza, Wafa reported.

At least 340 bodies were found in a mass grave at destroyed Nasser Medical Complex in Khan Younis, following an Israeli siege, Gaza's Civil Defence agency said.

Meanwhile, Israeli media reported that the military was preparing for the anticipated ground invasion into the southern city of Rafah, where around 1.5 million Palestinians are sheltering and where Israel claims is hosting scores of Hamas fighters. Aid workers have warned of a massacre if the assault takes place.
