'From what I was told': Ornstein gives West Ham new Amorim hope after 'deal off' reports

The Ruben Amorim to West Ham United rumours spread like wildfire yesterday, after David Ornstein dropped the bombshell news.

David Ornstein broke the news that West Ham were in talks with Ruben Amorim on Monday, as the Hammers lined up a move to make a real blockbuster appointment.

Current Hammers manager David Moyes is clearly done at the London Stadium, although reports still suggest that no decision will be made on his future until the end of the season.

In spite of that, it’s clear to see that the West Ham owners are actively looking for a replacement for the Scot.

Amorim would be the absolute dream appointment for the Hammers wouldn’t he.

The Portuguese is thought to be keen to move to the Premier League, whilst one report suggested that he wants to bring Pedro Goncalves along with him to the London Stadium.

However, it all turned sour yesterday when Fabrizio Romano claimed that a deal to bring the Sporting manager to the London Stadium was off.

So is it still possible that we could bring him to the London Stadium?

David Ornstein gives West Ham new Ruben Amorim hope

Whilst our chances of appointing the 39-year-old may well be slim, there is apparently still a chance.

That comes from the man who originally broke the news of our interest in bringing the Portuguese to the Premier League.

When speaking on the Sports Agents yesterday, Ornstein provided a new update after the claims emerged about the deal to bring Amorim to East London collapsing:

“Certainly they could be replacing David Moyes because his contract is up at the end of the season. He said back in February that he had been offered a new deal and that he would decide at the end of the campaign. I’m assured the decision will not be taken before the campaign is over. Ruben Amorim flew to London for talks with West Ham and who knows, other clubs as well. Since then, reports have emerged that Amorim is unlikely to join West Ham. Now, let’s see how it develops. For instance, Julen Lopetegui is one who West Ham have done some work on, perhaps they can go back to someone like that. From what I was told, the potential of West Ham and the project there does appeal to Amorim. I have been of the belief that he will leave Sporting at the end of the season and his preference is to come to the Premier League. I can only go on what I’m told but Amorim to Liverpool is regarded as unlikely. Who knows. West Ham want him, but it will be tough, maybe around finances or preference. But the fact that West Ham are in for someone like that is bold and ambitious”

Ornstein is clearly suggesting there that a deal to bring Amorim to West Ham is far from dead and buried.

Any kind of deal like this involves huge finances, and it would be silly to expect it to be completed overnight.

If we are to make some genuine progress over the next few years, a big upgrade on Moyes is required, as well as the Scot has undoubtedly done at the London Stadium over the past 4.5 years.

Ruben Amorim is the dream appointment for West Ham, and I think that David Ornstein has just given us real hope that the 39-year-old could still potentially take over from Moyes in the summer.
