SMU landed a commitment from East Carolina Pirates offensive lineman Qae’shon Sapp, who started his college career at Florida State and transferred from ECU this spring. Sapp announced the news Tuesday night.
Sapp didn’t an entire semester at ECU before entering the portal. He left the Seminoles in December to pursue a new college. He reported an offer from SMU this week before quickly making his commitment.
Sapp was at Florida State the past two years, where he has served mostly as a reserve lineman. SMU offensive line coach Garin Justice brought in transfer help during the winter portal window, but opted to bring in Sapp this month to address the interior of the offensive line.
With Sapp on board, SMU will look to address the offensive tackle position now. He has three years of eligibility remaining.
Prior to enrolling at Florida State, Sapp was a three-star prospect and the No. 410 overall recruit in the 2022 recruiting class, according to the On3 Industry Rankings.
He checked in as the No. 28 interior offensive lineman and the No. 41 overall player from the state of Georgia, hailing from Leesburg (GA) Lee County.
