‘Not closed’: David Ornstein suggests 39-year-old manager has an outside chance of getting the Liverpool job

Liverpool’s search for a new manager is really heating up.

We’re just one month out from Jurgen Klopp’s grand departure from Anfield, and Liverpool need to find a new gaffer.

By the sounds of things, Arne Slot has worked his way towards the top of the Reds’ shortlist. However, that is far from a done deal.

As we’ve heard this entire time, Liverpool still have other candidates in mind, and speaking on the Sky Sports Back Pages Podcast, David Ornstein has suggested that Ruben Amorim isn’t quite out of the race yet.

Ruben Amorim isn’t out of Liverpool race

According to Ornstein, Amorim is unlikely to get the Liverpool job, but that particular door isn’t closed.

“Liverpool still have other candidates they’re looking at. Ruben Amorim, many have spoken about him, my information is that it’s very unlikely, but it’s not closed, and they have time, Richard Hughes is the incoming Sporting Director, Michael Edwards will want to conduct thorough interviews and get this right,” Ornstein said.

Ruben Amorim is fancied

As the old saying goes, there’s no smoke without fire, and Amorim has been talked about for a long time at Liverpool.

Fabrizio Romano has been banging this drum for a little while that Amorim was Liverpool’s top choice, and while that may no longer be the case, he’s clearly a coach that the Reds do admire and like.

Amorim is far from being the favourite for the job these days, it sounds as though, for now, Arne Slot is top of the Reds’ list, but, given how many twists and turns we’ve already had in this saga, don’t be too surprised if Amorim’s name circles back around and he does re-enter this conversation at some point down the line.

Amorim could still end up in the Anfield dugout next season.
