Germany's CDU/CSU parliamentary faction called on Prime Minister Rishi Sunak to put pressure on Chancellor Olaf Scholz during a meeting on the issue of providing Ukraine with Taurus missiles, according to n-tv.

"The American package now directly calls on US President Joe Biden to provide Ukraine with long-range missiles (ATACMS, - ed.)," CDU defense expert Roderich Kiesewetter says.

As Kiesewetter notes, as a result of the US decision, Sunak must also put pressure on Scholz so that the latter finally allows the delivery of the Taurus to Ukraine.

Taurus for Ukraine

Kyiv invited long-range Taurus missiles to Germany last year. These missiles can hit a target at a distance of 500 kilometers. At the same time, Scholz refused this question because the use of missiles would require the presence of German military personnel in Ukraine. In particular, he claimed that improper use of missiles threatens to strike Moscow.

As President Volodymyr Zelenskyy noted, Scholz is afraid to hand over Taurus because of the fear of a nuclear threat from the Russian Federation.

Meanwhile, the head of the defense committee of the Bundestag, Marie-Agnes Strack-Zimmermann, also called for the transfer of missiles to Ukraine.
