Crysencio Summerville did something on Monday that no other Leeds United player has done since 2016-17

Crysencio Summerville did something no other Leeds United player has managed since 2016-17 against Middlesbrough on Monday night.

The 4-3 victory was massive in terms of Leeds United reigniting their push for automatic promotion and realistically, nothing has changed with Leicester City thumping Southampton on Tuesday.

The Yorkshire side will have known that it might have been Leicester to go on and win the League title and that second was more achievable. That seems to be the case even after the win at Middlesbrough.

Leicester are now four points clear at the top of the table with two games to play and Enzo Maresca’s men look nailed on to get the job done. They take on Preston North End next Monday at Deepdale.

The loss means that Southampton are now unable to reach the top two with six points separating the Saints and Daniel Farke‘s side.

Summerville reaches 30 goals and assists for Leeds

The Dutchman took his tally to 30 goals and assists this campaign as he netted a brace and created Willy Gnonto’s effort.

This is the first time a Leeds player has done so in a single season since striker Chris Wood in 16-17.

Wood, now at Nottingham Forest, starred for The Whites under Garry Monk and fired the Whites towards the play-offs that season.

With Farke’s men now facing two more Championship games to play in QPR and Southampton, maybe the club’s flying Dutchman can reach numbers similar to Wood’s. It comes after a poor spell of form.

What Stewart Downing said about Summerville’s recent form

22-year-old Summerville had struggled to find his best form in the last couple of months, scoring two goals and failing to lay on an assist in his last 11 games.

But Stewart Downing says Summerville is now back to his best.

Leeds need Summerville to be the player that earned the Championship’s Player of the Season award in these last two games. Two wins are absolutely necessary, with Ipswich boasting that game in hand.

But also because Leeds teammate Dan James has suffered an injury after coming on as a substitute against Middlesbrough. Promotion is on the cards at Elland Road this season and Summerville is key.
