'Fed up': Republicans say Comer is desperate to dump Biden impeachment probe

House Oversight and Accountability Committee Chairman James Comer

The Republican Party's beleaguered effort to impeach President Joe Biden for corruption it has yet to prove has House Oversight Committee Chairman James Comer wishing for a biblical snow day, according to GOP sources in a new report.

"Comer is hoping Jesus comes so he can get out,” a GOP lawmaker told CNN Wednesday. “He is fed up.”

Multiple sources reportedly said 15 months of making unproven claims during a lengthy impeachment inquiry has begun to grate on Comer's nerves as he grows "increasingly frustrated" with what CNN describes as a dead-end investigation.

That's why, according to one CNN source, Comer is ready to be done.

Comer (R-KY) is now tactfully closing impeachment inquiry shop as he considers ambitions of running for higher offices that include the governorship of his state, sources said.

A House Oversight Committee spokesperson denied the investigation was tapering off, saying, “The impeachment inquiry is ongoing and impeachment is 100% still on the table.”

Comer's reported efforts to step away do not mean he's admitting to missteps during his handling of the Biden probe, according to the report. When asked, the Kentucky lawmaker told CNN, "Not that I can think of."

But other Republicans who spoke with CNN disagreed.

“I think early on, the most important thing to do is to let the evidence lead the investigation," one GOP lawmaker reportedly said. "And I think some of the earlier statements got a little more aspirational than the evidence really allowed."

“He seemed to think he had a lot of stuff that just seemed to indicate some things that needed to be investigated," added another Republican. "I don’t know what happened.”

Asked about whether fellow Republicans had shared their frustrations with him, Comer reportedly grew testy.

"Comer grew defensive and took a swipe at CNN, echoing complaints sources say he has made privately to colleagues about the media coverage," the report states.

“I don’t even want to talk to you,” Comer said. “If you don’t think they were influence-peddling, there’s nothing to say. My God.”
