‘A big fan’: Journalist says in-demand manager is a huge admirer of Pep Guardiola and Man City

Guillem Balague has revealed that one manager is a big fan of Pep Guardiola and Manchester City.

The 53-year-old has been in charge of the Manchester club since 2016 and has overlooked 465 matches in total.

With the Spaniard’s contract at the Etihad Stadium set to expire in the summer of 2025, some behind-the-scenes details have emerged regarding one manager’s apparent admiration of City and their prolific head coach.

In a recent column for BBC Sport, Balague had this to say about Ruben Amorim and the interest he has in the Premier League.

He said: “It is not a surprise he is a big fan of the Premier League given the pace of the game and the managers involved – in particular the work being done by Pep Guardiola and Roberto de Zerbi.

“He follows Manchester City and Brighton closely and makes sure he watches a couple of Premier League games every week.

“His English is excellent and his recent reading material includes books about Guardiola, Mauricio Pochettino and Jose Mourinho.”

Could Ruben Amorim be eyeing up a job in the Premier League?

In recent days, the Sporting CP manager has been linked with West Ham United and Liverpool, although it has since been reported that the 39-year-old will not be taking either role next season.

Since being appointed as Sporting’s manager back in March 2020, Amorim has taken charge of 208 games with the Portuguese club across all competitions, winning 146, drawing 31 and losing 31.

Bearing in mind how Guardiola has won five Premier League titles during his time at the Manchester club, breaking numerous records along the way, it shouldn’t be a surprise to anyone that a young manager like Amorim is a big admirer of him and keeps an eye on City.

With Balague now sharing that Amorim is a big fan of Guardiola and De Zerbi, it could be said that he may be waiting for the City or Brighton manager position to become available so he can make a move to the Premier League.
