Sooners Keeping the Momentum Up

One of the most interesting storylines to follow right now with the Sooners is the ongoing recruitment of multiple cornerbacks. Two of their top remaining targets, Courtland Guillory and Trystan Haynes, were on campus this weekend.

Guillory already picked up a prediction for the Sooners and there seems to be little slowing that momentum with Oklahoma stopping by to see him yesterday.

Haynes has been a bit more quiet than Guillory, and Heisman Hangout weekend visitor Cobey Sellers, in regard to the Sooners. However, on his visit to Norman last weekend he talked about being aware of the quality cornerbacks Jay Valai is currently after.

“The [spring] game was fun though having fun with a couple of my teammates and the recruits,” Haynes said. “I speak with Coach Valai and [Brent] Venables often, and I’ve met [Maliek] Hawkins and Sellers a few times. I love the idea of playing with other good cornerbacks.”

It’s worth noting that both Guillory and Sellers played host to Oklahoma’s defensive staff on Tuesday in Houston.

The Sooners have long been thought to be focused on two cornerbacks for the 2025 class but it looks more and more as though Oklahoma could take three with so many quality options available. With Hawkins in the boat already, the Sooners may be looking at two commitments out of their three targets – Guillory, Haynes, and Sellers.

Alley Impresses Space City Edge Rusher

Last weekend a late change of plans saw Sugar Land (Texas) Ft. Bend Christian EDGE Max Granville elect to visit Texas A&M after originally planning to be in Norman. According to Granville, it was a matter of easier travel.

“I just wanted to be able to not travel far last weekend. A&M was convenient because it’s about an hour and a half from me,” Granville said. “[I’m] still excited to get back up to Norman.”

Granville was another player that the Sooners made a point to get by on their Tuesday tour in Houston.

From talking to some sources it sounds like Oklahoma did a great job making not just Granville himself but his entire family feel like a priority to the Sooners.

Notably it sounds as though the family has been impressed by the two-fold efforts of Zac Alley and Miguel Chavis.

Alley has, as of late, done an outstanding job painting a picture for the family in the way that Granville will be deployed in the Sooners defense. Chavis, continues to impress with making the family feel comfortable about dropping their son off in Norman and moving forward.

Though the entire defensive staff showed up for about 45 minutes several departed to get an early start with five-star safety offer Jonah Williams. But Alley and Chavis remained behind and continued to make sure they checked all the boxes.

Granville, more and more, feels like an A&M and Sooners battle – a pairing that has been tough on Oklahoma in the Houston area in recent years. Still though according to sources the relationship that Oklahoma has with the entire Granville family will be tough to overcome.

Sooners Staying Hard After Elite Pass Rusher

Another Houston area standout that saw the Sooners defensive staff on Tuesday was Alief (Texas) Hastings pass rusher Smith Orogbo. The big man talked about the simplicity of Oklahoma’s pursuit.

“They’ve been showing love. I got a chance to meet the defensive staff and their overall message has been they want me,” Orogbo said.

The nation’s No. 26 prospect, according to On3, has been impressed by Oklahoma’s staff and their straight-forward approach to his recruitment.

“It has been pretty great. We’ve gotten to spend time and talk about football.”
