Report: Several Chelsea players believe squad will benefit if 52-year-old is their manager next season

A report has shared how much of the Chelsea squad feel about the prospect of Mauricio Pochettino remaining as manager at Stamford Bridge beyond this season.

Mauricio Pochettino‘s position at Chelsea is back under the microscope after a couple of damaging defeats for the Blues in the last few days.

Chelsea went into their FA Cup semi-final with Manchester City having not lost in any competition since their first game in February. However, they missed out on a place in the final due to a late goal from Bernardo Silva.

But if the Blues could be content with their Wembley showing, there were virtually no positives to take from their defeat to Arsenal on Tuesday night as Mikel Arteta’s men ran out 5-0 winners at the Emirates.

How some Chelsea players feel about Mauricio Pochettino staying

According to a report from The Telegraph, Chelsea are yet to make a decision on whether they want to keep Pochettino as their manager beyond the end of this campaign.

Pochettino was a controversial choice given his connections to Tottenham, and it has been a difficult first season at Stamford Bridge for the Argentinian. Chelsea are only two points closer to the top-four than they are to 17th place Nottingham Forest right now.

The good news for Pochettino is that many of the players believe that the side would benefit from holding onto the 52-year-old and trying to build some stability after a number of very turbulent years for the club.

Blues board would be wise to take note of what squad want

Chelsea clearly have so much potential within their ranks despite arguably trying to change too much too quickly following Todd Boehly’s arrival.

The likes of Thomas Tuchel, Graham Potter and now Pochettino have attempted to take Chelsea back into title contention, and there is clearly plenty of work still ahead.

Perhaps another manager will get even more out of the ranks, but they cannot afford to make another appointment which does not work out.

Pochettino’s first year has been far from perfect, and there is definitely a chance that he will not be the one to bring success back to Chelsea.

But it is a big boost to the Argentinian to have some of the players – some of whom will be with the club for many, many years – in his corner, and it may go a long way when the Chelsea hierarchy make a final decision on his future.
