£30m Arsenal maestro now leads Europe’s top seven leagues in five crucial stats

One Arsenal star is now leading all players across Europe’s top seven leagues when it comes to five major statistics.

Arsenal produced an outstanding attacking display as they thrashed Chelsea 5-0 at the Emirates Stadium on Tuesday evening.

Martin Odegaard was at the heart of almost everything the Gunners did well against the Blues. Whilst he was not able to get on the scoresheet himself, the captain pulled the visitors’ defence apart time and time again.

Odegaard impressed Arsenal fans with his creativity against Chelsea, and he was rewarded for his playmaking efforts with a brace of assists.

First, he was able to play Kai Havertz through on goal with a perfectly weighted long-range through-ball. The German did not even have to break stride as he arrived to meet the ball, and he then made no mistake in finding the back of the net.

With 70 minutes on the clock, the Norwegian set up the Gunners’ fifth goal as his delightful scooped pass bypassed the Chelsea rearguard and found Ben White in space in the penalty area. The right-back’s mis-hit attempt to deliver a cross then looped into the top corner.

Arsenal star Martin Odegaard leading the way in Europe

Odegaard has been the most creative player in the Premier League this season, and it was no great surprise to see him pulling the strings again on Tuesday night.

According to Squawka, he now leads Europe’s top seven leagues this season when it comes to five creative statistics. He has created 78 chances from open play, attempted 162 passes into the penalty area and has executed 102 of them successfully, and he has tried to play 34 through-balls and has been accurate with 18 of them. In all five of these instances, Odegaard is unmatched by any other top-level player on the continent.

Where does Martin Odegaard rank amongst Arsenal signings?

However, the £30 million former Real Madrid man is far more than just a creator. He has an eye for goal, and has found the back of the net 11 times, across all competitions, this season.

He also works incredibly hard off the ball, too. Week in, week out, the midfielder runs himself into the ground as he constantly harries and presses opposition players. Odegaard has been hailed as a perfect Arsenal captain due to his relentless work ethic.

In the context of the modern transfer market, Mikel Arteta was able to secure Odegaard’s services for a relative bargain fee. He will surely go down as one of Arsenal’s best signings of the modern era.
