French journalist's claim suggests Liverpool and West Ham need to swap targets

A claim being made by a French journalist about Arne Slot and Ruben Amorim suggests Liverpool and West Ham need to swap managerial targets.

West Ham and Liverpool have been hogging the Premier League headlines this week.

Both the Hammers and the Reds are now on the hunt for new managers.

As the world knows, Jurgen Klopp is stepping down as Liverpool boss at the end of the season.

Now it seems clear David Moyes is set to exit West Ham with his contract up and many fans calling for change.

Several managers have actually been linked with both Liverpool and West Ham of late.

It was reported last year that Feyenoord’s Arne Slot was a manager being considered by the Hammers hierarchy as they search for a more progressive style.

The Dutchman has also been linked with the Liverpool job.

Then on Monday many West Ham fans were giddy with excitement when David Ornstein revealed Sporting boss Ruben Amorim had flown to London for talks with the Hammers.

That raised eyebrows across football, particularly at Liverpool where he has been a longstanding target.

Ornstein then claimed Amorim was no longer being considered for the Anfield hotseat.

West Ham’s hopes were killed stone dead the very next day as it was reported in Portugal that Amorim would not be taking over from Moyes at the London Stadium.

Today it has been widely claimed that Liverpool are now on course to appoint Slot.

That gave rise to renewed hope the Hammers may be able to lure Amorim after all.

While the 39-year-old Portuguese now looks unlikely to join West Ham, it has not been entirely ruled out just yet.

However it could be the Hammers and Reds had things the right way around in the first place.

Claim suggests Liverpool and West Ham need to swap targets

In an exclusive Francois Plateau says Liverpool are aware Amorim is more suited to a continuation of their current style.

Whereas his description of Slot sounds perfect for West Ham given technical director Tim Steidten is going to be the one signing players.

“Data shows that Ruben Amorim’s Sporting CP aligns more closely with Klopp’s Liverpool in key metrics than Arne Slot’s Feyenoord,” Plateau said.

“Liverpool acknowledges this but fears that Amorim might demand greater influence over transfer dealings compared to Slot.

“Slot is characterised as a coach who focuses on coaching the team he has available. While Amorim is seen as a manager who might want more say in transfer activities.

“(Richard) Hughes and (Michael) Edwards are expected to retain more control over transfers in Liverpool’s new setup.”
