'The one thing...' Humphrey Ker shares the big change fans are about to see in Welcome to Wrexham

Welcome to Wrexham returns to screens for season 3 on May 2nd and executive director Humphrey Ker has told supporters what changes they can expect.

Welcome to Wrexham premiered in August 2022 and took the world by storm.

Showcasing the highs and lows of running a football club, the idea of creating a fly-on-the-wall TV series about the football club quickly rose to popularity, largely due to Hollywood owners Rob McElhenney and Ryan Reynolds.

When it returns for season 3 on May 2nd, the series will explore the Red Dragons’ first season back in the EFL after 15 seasons in the National League.

It’s got many – including none football supporters – gripped with excitement for the series and fans of the show will be anticipating changes.

Welcome to Wrexham is billed as a docuseries that tracks “the dreams and worries” of the working-class North Wales city as two Hollywood stars guide the future of their historic club.

It differs from the All or Nothing documentary on Manchester City but shares similarities to Sunderland Till I Die, as it delves more into what is going on in the community itself rather than the dressing room.

However, executive director Humphrey Ker has revealed that is about to change. During the All or Nothing series of Man City, Pep Guardiola is often seen shouting at his players in the dressing room and showcasing his pre-match and half-time team talks.

Speaking on the Men In Blazers podcast, Ker has said there will be more dressing-room action this season, so expect to watch Phil Parkinson shouting at his players.

He said: “The one thing I can tell you is, even more dressing room action this season which I really like. There’s more of nitty gritty of people shouting at each other at half time because we’re not playing very well. Otherwise, I think it’s more what people love which is seeing the town, seeing the team.”

It will be interesting to see what goes on behind the scenes in the dressing room at Wrexham as the players embark on their first season back in League Two.

Welcome to Wrexham going to the next level

McElhenney and Reynolds know that evolving the series will be crucial to keeping supporters interested.

Of course, Wrexham fans will naturally be attracted to watching a series on their club, but adding more dressing room action will only attract the wider footballing world.

Most football fans love to know what gets said in the dressing room tactically and to the players, so watching how a professional institution operates in that capacity will no doubt keep the audience gripped.
