Manchester United star who created 9 chances v Sheffield United gives instant reaction to win

One Manchester United star has given his instant reaction to Manchester United’s win over Sheffield United.

Manchester United once again flirted with disaster on Wednesday night, just a few days removed from coming close to being knocked out of the FA Cup by Coventry City after having a three-goal lead.

A big reaction was needed from Erik ten Hag’s side and the signs were positive as they dominated the first half and played some nice football.

But it was no great surprise when a foolish mistake from Andre Onana allowed the Blades to take the lead through Jayden Bogle.

Harry Maguire levelled but the visitors retook the lead through Ben Brereton Diaz in the second half.

Once again United turned to Bruno Fernandes to save them as the captain slammed home a penalty then blasted in a screamer to finally give United the lead.

Fernandes then turned provider for Rasmus Hojlund as the Dane ended his goal drought at last.

Now one player has given his instant reaction.

Speaking after the game, Fernandes gave two areas where United must still improve upon.

He told the BBC: “We talk about clean sheets all the time and we want to keep them. Credit to Sheffield United.

“At the end we came back. We put ourselves in a position where it’s tough to win games. But also it shows a bit of character.

“We also need to be aware that if we control the game like we did in the first half, we have to score our chances.

“We’re scoring lots of goals. It’s just about that compactness we need to have as a team.

“I’m really happy to score, but I want to win games more than score goals. It’s part of my role also, to score goals.

“But the main thing for me is winning games. Lately we haven’t won as many as we should have.

“It’s part of the job. You can win eight or nine games in a row, and then as soon as you lose you know you will be criticised.

“Being a Manchester United player demands winning games.”

Bruno Fernandes is the saviour again

Just when all looked lost and another humiliation was on the horizon, Fernandes once again saved United.

No one on the side takes responsibility like him or delivers moments of true, decisive quality when things are going awry like him.

There wasn’t a shred of nerves from the spot and his finish from distance was spectacular. Even more so, he was United’s constant attacking outlet, creating nine chances.

United would be in an immeasurably worse position without him.
