TV star risks 'instant facial paralysis' to remove 5lb tumor that doubled in size

Take My Tumor is a new reality TV series to TLC this year. The show focuses on three doctors who are changing people’s lives through their practice. Patients appear on the show looking for serious help. The doctors are often their last hope at reclaiming their lives. Dad of two Marlow sought a doctor’s help during the April 24 episode.

Marlow is 42 years old and hails from Milwaukee, Wisconsin. He’s a father of two girls, Helena, 11, and Bella, 8. The Take My Tumors star has a genetic disorder that causes tumors to grow on his neck. He explains on the TLC show how he’s been dealing with the large tumor since the age of 12.

Marlow has been suffering for decades

Introducing himself on Take My Tumor, Marlow explains how has difficulty in completing everyday tasks like shaving.

He says: “It’s been this size, probably from the age of 12… so almost like 30 years.”

He was officially diagnosed at five years old. Marlow says: “It was first on the size of the next, probably the size of a small goofball.”

Marlow had his first surgery at seven years old. He added: “From what I remember, the surgery went OK. But, it was less than six months it grew back like double in size.”

He told cameras: “It gave me a lot of headaches, like real bad migraines.”

Then from 13 years old to 35, he says he “never went to the doctor for a check-up.”

He later decided to have the tumors looked at by a doctor and removed. Beginning with the tumor on the back of his head, Marlow explains it was around “5lb.”

He had another on his shoulder, weighing around 3lb. Both were previously removed successfully and he is now turning his attention to the one on his face.

Take My Tumor: Marlow’s high-risk surgery

During the Take My Tumor episode, he seeks the help of one of the show’s doctors – Dr Ryan F Osborne.

The medical professional is the Director of Head and Neck Surgery at the Osborne Head and Neck Institute (OHNI) in LA, California.

In the doctor’s office with Dr Osborne, it’s explained to Marlow that his surgery would be super high risk.

The surgeon explains his worries about “facial nerve damage,” adding how if a certain nerve is “hit,” it would result in “total, instant facial paralysis.”

Dr Osborne adds how he thinks Marlow is “processing” the information, and deciding whether he’s “living,” or “alive.”

His consultation was worrying, but brave Marlow opted in for the surgery and ended the show “100 per cent” happier with his results.

The reality TV star had to heal for eleven weeks and explained how not all of the tumor could be removed. But, regardless he felt much better for having the surgery and couldn’t stop smiling.

A fan of the show tweeted via X (Twitter) after seeing his results: “Yet another man wishing he wouldn’t have waited so long to face the fear. Marlow so happy you did what you wanted. Check out that smile. Amazing so mom admits he feels better. He is happier. So happy for him and his future.”
