On Wednesday, April 24, the European Parliament approved a law banning certain single-use plastic items, such as mini shampoo bottles in hotels and thin plastic bags for products, in order to curb the growing accumulation of packaging waste, according to Reuters.

From 2030, the EU will ban single-use plastic packaging for fruits and vegetables, condiments in fast-food restaurants, thin plastic bags for products, and mini bottles for cosmetics in hotels.

EU countries will also be required to ensure the collection of at least 90% of single-use plastic bottles and cans annually, starting in 2029, through deposit return systems to ensure the recycling of a larger amount of waste.

From January 2023, in Ukraine, the deadline expired during which supermarkets could use thin plastic bags for packaging a range of goods. Now only biodegradable options are allowed.
