West Dereham Parish Council to have new playground built after successful funding bid

Children in West Dereham are set to benefit from a new playground thanks to a £50,076 grant.

The money, which came via the FCC Communities Foundation, will be used to buy play equipment at the St Andrew’s Playing Field in the village.

Cllr Angela Caley, who sits on West Dereham Parish Council, believes the facility will make a huge difference to the lives of people living in the area.

She said: “This project will provide a real boost to the people of West Dereham.

“It’s fantastic that FCC Communities Foundation has awarded us this money and we’re really looking forward to our play equipment taking shape over the next few months.”

FCC Communities Foundation is a not-for-profit business which awards grants for community projects through the Landfill Communities Fund.

Penny Horne, the foundation’s grant manager, said: “We’re delighted to be supporting the West Dereham playground project and pleased our funding will provide such a fantastic facility for children and young families in West Dereham and the surrounding villages.

“FCC Communities Foundation is always happy to consider grant applications for projects that make a difference to local communities and we’re really looking forward to seeing this one take shape soon.”

Fundraising for the project began in March last year and involved a crowdfunding campaign, various community fundraising events and donations from Mick George and another local business owner.

In July last year, the parish council applied for CIL funding from West Norfolk Council and was successful in securing an additional £30,000 which went towards the project.

The grant from FCC Communities Foundation has now completed the funding necessary to install the much-needed facility for the children of the village.

Cllr Caley said she hopes the equipment will be ready for the community to use by the end of July.
