Sander Westerveld has shared what Arne Slot told him about the links with Liverpool as he backed the Dutchman to be the right man to succeed Jurgen Klopp as the club’s next manager.
It appears that Arne Slot is in the driving seat to be handed one of the most daunting tasks in football in many ways, with Liverpool saying goodbye to a legendary figure at the end of this season.
TBR Football exclusively reported this week that sources believe a deal will be agreed between Feyenoord and Liverpool for Slot, who led the Eredivisie side to the title last season.
Understandably, there has been plenty of debate surrounding whether the 45-year-old will be the right man to succeed Jurgen Klopp, given the enormity of the task at Anfield next season.
Slot is still in the early stages of his managerial career, and he is yet to test himself outside of the Netherlands, so some fans may see it as a real gamble from the Reds.

One person who believes that Slot is exactly who Liverpool need however, is Sander Westerveld, who played alongside the Feyenoord boss at Sparta Rotterdam.
Speaking to The Times, Westerveld has suggested that he has asked his friend about the links, and believes that he would be a great choice for his old side.
“I spoke to him this morning and he just said it is not a secret that Liverpool wants him but that he could not say anything. I hope it will happen,” he said.
“The job he has done at Feyenoord makes him the perfect fit for Liverpool. He arrived there from AZ Alkmaar. AZ had finished higher up the league than Feyenoord but he still went there because he liked the challenge and he thought the coach was not taking all of the potential out of the team.
“Liverpool have a lot of potential in the squad, and we don’t have the money that Manchester City have to spend, so I think he will get all the potential out of the players. He plays in the same style as Jürgen Klopp: sexy football, forward pressing and the percentage of ball recoveries in the opposition half is the highest in Holland. When he loses the ball, he wants the ball back in three seconds.”

Ultimately, some fans are likely to be concerned about appointing Slot, but that would probably be the case for whoever the Reds turned to.
Liverpool are not going to be able to find another Jurgen Klopp, but in time, that may prove to be a good thing as anyone trying to emulate Klopp is going to fall short.
Slot has his own ideas and philosophies, and he is wanted by the likes of Bayern Munich and Barcelona, which says a lot about how highly he is regarded in the game.
It could be a really exciting move which Westerveld believes proves to be inspired – should Slot now indeed take over this summer.
