Liverpool have suffered a critical blow in their Premier League title hopes after losing 2-0 to Everton at Goodison Park on Wednesday night.
The Reds went into the match having just about got themselves back in the title picture after beating Fulham at the weekend.
Liverpool were hoping to do what Arsenal did on Tuesday night and pick up three points in a derby, but things went seriously pear-shaped.
In the 28th minute, the Reds conceded after a litany of errors at the back, with Jarrad Branthwaite forcing the ball over the line.
Ibrahima Konate failed to clear a loose ball and it found its way to the Everton defender, who poked the ball past Alisson Becker and into the net off the post.
At half-time, with Liverpool trailing 1-0 to the Toffees, Jamie Carragher expressed dismay at one thing in particular that the Reds had been doing.

Carragher wasn’t impressed by how many free kicks the Reds had conceded, saying it was testament to their naivety in a big derby.
The Liverpool legend said on Sky Sports: “How many times have Liverpool given away free-kicks?
“Everton definitely deserved to go in front. The naivety of Liverpool in how to play a derby game…”
Things would get even worse for Jurgen Klopp’s charges, as they conceded a second just before the hour to leave their Premier League title hopes in tatters.
Everton delivered a corner and allowed Dominic Calvert-Lewin a free header, which he took with aplomb, hammering past Alisson to send the Goodison crowd into raptures.

Defending set pieces has been one of Liverpool’s strengths for much of their time under Klopp.
However, against one of the teams whose set pieces need to be kept at bay the most, the Reds just couldn’t deal with them.
Not only do Liverpool concede bragging rights to their bitter rivals, but they’ve all-but conceded their Premier League title hopes for the season. Not a good night for the red side of the city.
