Report: Spurs could now launch £45m bid for 'fantastic' striker Postecoglou said 'definitely makes a difference'

Tottenham Hotspur were busy in both the summer transfer window ahead of the 2023/24 season and the January market.

With the 2024 summer transfer window now on the horizon, there’s a good chance Spurs could be busy once again.

Ange Postecoglou has worked wonders at Tottenham since taking the reins of last season’s eighth-placed team in the Premier League.

Before Christmas, Spurs even looked like dark horses for the Premier League title. And while they weren’t able to keep it up, a top-four place remains up for grabs.

One area where Tottenham could strengthen is up front, and Spurs could now test the waters for one of the Premier League’s most highly sought-after strikers.

According to GiveMeSport, Tottenham could move for Brentford’s Ivan Toney in the coming months, if there isn’t too much competition for his services.

What has been said about Tottenham and Ivan Toney?

The report claims that Arsenal and Manchester United have both cooled their interest in the England international of late, potentially giving Spurs a chance to swoop.

During the January transfer window, Sky Sports reported that the Bees wanted around £100million for Toney, but that value may well have decreased now.

The 28-year-old’s contract runs until 2025, so this summer is the last chance Brentford have of recouping a decent fee for their key asset’s signature.

Tottenham are unwilling to meet Brentford’s £60million price tag on the centre-forward during the summer window, but may test the waters at £45million, added GMS.

Toney has proven himself in the Premier League, showing he’s truly ‘world-class‘, and there’s no doubt a big career move now beckons for him.

Postecoglou rates Toney highly too. Speaking to football.london in January, the Spurs boss said he’s a “fantastic” forward who “definitely makes a difference to Brentford, as I think he would to most sides.”

Could Toney soon be making the difference for Tottenham? This is certainly a transfer story to watch in the coming months.
