Report: 27-year-old not being picked by Forest could now go to Brazilian club this summer

After a week of talking about anything but, we may actually have a bit of football news for you and it involves Nottingham Forest defender Gonzalo Montiel.

The headlines have been dominated by VAR, Stuart Attwell and the club calling out the PGMOL following a 2-0 defeat to Everton on Sunday afternoon.

With that in mind, football has taken a backseat somewhat and ultimately, Forest have been trying to get answers from the PGMOL this week.

Now, some news has come to light regarding Forest man Montiel – with the player’s future somewhat up in the air at the moment.

The Argentine signed on a season-long loan from Sevilla during the summer transfer window after helping the club win the Europa League in 2022/23.

Report shares details on future of Gonzalo Montiel

The 26-year-old has been out of the Forest team of late – with Neco Williams grasping the chance to make the right-back spot his own.

Now, Montiel’s future is in question with Forest not going to sign him permanently and Sevilla wanting to offload him.

According toreports, Montiel could now head to Flamengo in Brazil – and it’s claimed that Sevilla might actually loan him to the South American outfit.

Forest did include a deal to sign Montiel permanently if he played so many games in the initial loan.

However, he won’t now reach the required number of games and Montiel won’t be penning permanent terms at Forest.

Forest right not to buy Montiel

If the Reds can stave off the threat of relegation, it goes without saying that they will need to cut their cloth accordingly.

Signing Montiel for £9 million wouldn’t have made a great deal of business sense for Forest given that he’s not actually played for the club for a few months.

When Nuno Espirito Santo signed for the club he made Montiel the first-choice right-back but ultimately, niggling injuries kept robbing him of a regular run of games.

Williams has made the position his own in the last few months and that has led to Montiel playing a watching brief since he returned from his latest injury.

Forest loanee Montiel has won the World Cup as a player but he’s just not worked out in the Premier League and the Reds are right to move on from him during the summer.
