‘Phenomenal’ Aston Villa ace could become the first Englishman to complete PL milestone v Chelsea

Aston Villa will be looking to continue their stellar run of form against Chelsea on Saturday night, with one of Unai Emery’s stars having an emphatic Premier League milestone in his sight.

Aston Villa will look to extend their lead on Tottenham in the race for fourth place on Saturday, as the Villans welcome Chelsea to Villa Park in an eight-o’clock thriller.

Unai Emery’s side have shown their quality over their previous two Premier League fixtures, beating Arsenal 2-0 at the Emirates and then coming from a goal behind to defeat Bournemouth last weekend.

Now, Villa will hope to secure three points against Mauricio Pochettino’s inconsistent side, who will be desperate to bounce back after their humiliating 5-0 defeat to the Gunners.

The primary focus of the hosts will be to keep their winning streak going however, the fixture could be pivotal for one Villan in particular.

Aston Villa star Ollie Watkins could break a Premier League record against Chelsea

If there’s one player Chelsea will fear, it’s Ollie Watkins, who has more goal contributions than anyone in the Premier League this season, leading by example with 31.

The problem for the Blues is that the forward will be more motivated than ever to score on Saturday night, with records there to be broken when his next goal is scored.

Not only will the 28-year-old’s next goal make him Villa’s best-ever scorer in a single Premier League season with 20, but will also see him become the first English player to achieve one remarkable feat.

As relayed by Aston Villa Statto on Twitter, if Watkins scores against Chelsea, he will become the first Englishman in the Premier League to score 20+ non-penalty goals and record 10+ assists in a single campaign.

It would be an astounding achievement for the Villa talisman, who has taken his game to the next level this season under Emery.

Ollie Watkins could become a Premier League great against Chelsea

Watkins could become the first English player to reach such milestone however, he could join a list of Premier League greats in hitting 20+ goals from open play and 10+ assists.

Only five players before him have reached the record, giving him the potential to join Luis Suarez, Alexis Sanchez, Mohamed Salah, Thierry Henry and Didier Drogba, very good company to be in.

There is also the challenge of winning the Golden Boot this season, with Watkins still very much in the running, just one goal behind leaders Erling Haaland and Cole Palmer although, the Villa marksman is the only one of the three to score all his goals from open play.

It could be a day for great celebration on Saturday, with Emery hoping his ‘phenomenal’ striker, as lauded by Garth Crooks, will be at his best to claim three points and write himself in the record books.
