Collingham Cricket Club’s 2nds’ side got the bragging right in a friendly against Newark R and M at Dale Field that took place on Saturday.
In a narrow victory, the collingham team won by seven runs.
Both sides met hoping to get some solid minutes for their players in the field and at the crease before they officially start their season.
Visitors Newark won the toss and elected to field as newly appointed captain Tom Quinton put the hosts into bat.
David Pipes top scored for Collingham as he notched up 41 before being bowled by Oliver Faulkner.
With most of the batting order achieving modest scores, Samuel Derry and captain Will Wright anchored the team, hitting 19 and 27 not out, respectively.
Derry and Wright helped Collingham cost to a nice total of 163 for the loss of six wickets.
The pair managed to hold off against the onslaught of Newark bowler Matthew Evans who took four wickets for just 22 runs.
Newark relied on their bowlers as all of their scalps came from the bails flying off and the contribution from the fielders came in the form of trying to reduce the number of runs scored by the home side.
In response, opener Thomas Gregorick hit 26 before being bowled LBW by Lee Fazackerley.
Captain Tom Quinton fell for one and Harry Cameron hit a solid 35 before also being found LBW off the bowling of Pipes.
Josh Briggs hit 32 before being caught by Ross Taylor off a Will Hillman delivery.
In the end Newark ran out of overs as they fell just short, losing eight wickets for 156 which saw Collingham scrape the win.
The Newark side will open their campaign in Division B of the South Notts League against Plumtree 2nds on May 4 at home, (12.30pm start).
Collingham 2nds will contest their Division C opener on the road against Gedling Colliery 2nds on the same day, (1 pm start).
