Aston Villa manager Unai Emery has shared what he asks for from his players, outlining his aims for next season at Villa Park after signing a contract extension.
It’s been quite the year and a half for Unai Emery at Aston Villa, who has turned the club’s fortunes around, taking the Villans from being under a spell of mediocrity to contending in Europe.
With four games left to play of what has been an outstanding 2023/24 campaign, Villa are in with a chance of securing Champions League football for next season, as well as still having European silverware in their sights.
When Steven Gerrard steered Villa towards the relegation zone at the start of the 2022/23 calendar, not many would have believed that the Villans would finish that season in seventh, with all credit pointed to Emery.
Having now signed a contract extension at Villa Park, the Spaniard will look to continue to progress with his squad, shedding some light on his time at the club so far in a recent interview with beIN SPORTS Asia.

In a fascinating interview after penning his new deal, Emery told beIN SPORTS of his plans for the near future at Villa, explaining the standards he expects from his players if they wish to be part of the journey ahead.
“I want to continue my development as a coach, develop with other coaches as well.
“The club gave me a lot of confidence, with the players we are demanding, the players themselves have to be demanding and they have to deserve to continue being part of our project because their performance and commitment is everything I want.
“I want the players to be demanding, to develop and to always be demanding to learn, to be ambitious, to try and get trophies and to be committed to Aston Villa.”

There is a feeling around Villa Park that the players have complete trust in the manager and his philosophy, with every squad member seemingly understanding the project that is underway at the club.
Another element is the fact that the players play expertly well in Emery’s system, bringing the best out of a host of individuals, particularly the attack who have thrived this campaign thanks to the manager’s guidance.
