Maya Jama shares poem about 'twists and turns' of love after taking Stormzy back

Maya Jama has shared a poem about love, which references "twists and turns," with fans on social media this week, amid her rekindled romance with Stormzy.

The presenter, 29, has been in a relationship with rapper Stormzy, 30, since last year. The couple are understood to have rekindled their romance after several years apart, with their previous four-year romance having ended in 2019. She took to Instagram on Thursday to share a piece of poetry that she had seemingly been sent by someone through WhatsApp shortly after midnight that morning. Maya however didn't disclose who had sent the message.

The poem, which has previously circulated on social media, reads: "They say sometimes love starts with a spark. And that might be true but if I were to wish you a love I wouldn't wish fire for you. Fire is powerful it burns bright then it's gone. It's beautiful and warm but it doesn't last long." And the composition in question continues: "So instead of wishing you a love that burns. I wish you love like a river that twists and turns. It changes and flows and it's powerful and free but it consistently finds it way back to the sea."

Maya's in a relationship with Stormzy - whose real name is Michael Owuo Jr. - after having seemingly reconciled last year. The couple were said to have confirmed that they were back together in October 2023, after being seen together on holiday just weeks prior.

The couple had previously parted ways in 2019 after having reportedly begun dating four years prior. Following the news of their separation, there were rumours that Stormzy had cheated on Maya, which he has denied in the years since.

Whilst seemingly discussing the relationship on radio station HOT 97 in 2020, he denied cheating on her, but admitted to having been "inconsiderate" and showing "disrespect". Stormzy then seemingly discussed Maya in the interview.

He said during the appearance: "Like if there was a box of like what a good woman is she ticks every one - she's amazing. But I didn't cheat on her. I actually didn't cheat. [...] Don't get it twisted, I'm still definitely an a***hole."

And whilst speaking to Louis Theroux in an interview for the BBC, which was released in 2022, he said: "My break-up, that was probably the biggest catalyst for growth as a man. It was like 'Okay, you made a mistake and you lose someone you loved, someone you cared for, someone who's special to you'." He added: "That's probably the biggest loss a man can have, isn't it? Away from someone passing away."

Asked for clarification about 'mistakes,' he said: "I mean, the whole f***ing palaver that surrounded that situation." It was reminded that Stormzy had denied cheating before he shared: "There were mistakes that I'd made [in the relationship]. This is the best way to put it ... I didn't do what a man should do to fully appreciate love, and care for his woman."
