It’s like OU fans got to watch former linebacker Jordan Evans grow up. Literally. From his days at Norman North to four years as a Sooner to the NFL, we were there every step of the way.
And so was SoonerScoop. There the night when Evans was so dominant for Norman North vs. Broken Arrow that he practically earned an OU offer with one game. It’s weird looking back thinking nobody was even sure if Evans was a take at the time. He had camped at OU earlier that summer and didn’t seem like he was going to be a Sooner under Bob Stoops.
How quickly it all changed, and what an integral role Evans ended up playing during his seasons as a Sooner.
We were there when he was thrust into the spotlight early as a freshman because of the Frank Shannon Title IX situation, and Evans never looking back.
Like in 2016 when he accepted the role as leader of the defense. When he stood up there and took the heat for the lack of defensive success. How a meeting with his father spurred something in Evans and brought out his greatness.
And there for the turnaround when Evans played at a different level in the final months of his OU career. A magnificent pro day that eventually led to the Cincinnati Bengals taking a chance on him. It paid off for all involved.
Evans announced his retirement from football last weekend. And one of his first stops? To SoonerScoop as a guest of the Family Business with Joe Castiglione Jr. and Isaac Stoops.
Evans, an OU legacy whose father played for the Sooners, finished his career with 127 tackles. Evans had 81 solo stops, 3.5 sacks and two interceptions.
