Celtic now have the chance to make Scottish football history this season

It has been a pretty dramatic 12 months for Celtic. There have been highs and lows along the way, lots of discussions about the direction of the club and plenty of developments off the pitch.

Management changes, lacklustre transfer activity, difficult periods of form and injuries have all presented big challenges to overcome.

Now, with just a handful of games left in the season, Celtic have the chance to do something that no other Scottish club has ever achieved.

The Bhoys sit three points clear at the top of the Scottish Premiership with five matches remaining and are installed as favourites to lift yet another league trophy.

Celtic FC Women meanwhile also sit top of SWPL 1, two points clear of rivals Rangers, with their own five-game ending to navigate.

Celtic’s shot at history

If both the men’s and women’s teams lift the silverware, it’ll be the first time that a single club has won the country’s two league titles in the same season.

The women’s side famously came so close to glory last term roared on by record-breaking bumper crowds at Celtic Park, only to be denied on the very final matchday by a last-gasp Glasgow City goal.

Fran Alonso left the club earlier this season and his replacement – Elena Sadiku – has the opportunity to make an incredible impact just months after taking charge.

If the two Celtic sides now finish the job, it’ll be a landmark moment for the club and Scottish football – a true signifier of dominance across both top flights.

Lots of hard work ahead for both Celtic sides

Nothing is guaranteed, of course, and there are massive matches ahead that can still alter the direction these trophies are heading in.

Sadiku’s outfit picked up impressive wins over Rangers and Glasgow City last month but still have to play both teams – who have previously lifted this title – again over the coming weeks.

Brendan Rodgers’ side can’t take anything for granted either and have their own huge derby at home to Rangers on May 11th.

Still, it’s a tantalising prospect and something the club would no doubt make a big deal of if it happened, and rightly so.

With both sides also still gunning for Scottish Cup success, there’s even the chance of a double-double.
