Survey reveals the five most common dreams among Americans

A survey found that most Americans across different states dream about the same things and then, turn to the Internet for their meanings.

The purpose of dreams isn’t fully understood thanks to different theories suggesting different reasons. However, going by the study from last year, it seems most people in the United States think similarly when asleep.

5 most common dreams among Americans

Mattress brand Each Night analyzed the searches made by Americans across different states based on 106 dream-related terms.

They “determined the average monthly search volume per 100,000 residents in each state and looked to see what emerged as the top five in each one.”

Let’s find out what Americans mostly dream about.

Lucid dreams

Lucid dreams and terms related to it were the most searched dream-related query in most states.

Lucid dreaming is a state of mind when the person is aware that they are dreaming and can control it to some degree, according to Very Well Mind.

It’s said that you can alter the course of your dream, which explains the other most searched question on Google – How to lucid dream?

Seeing a snake

As random as it may sound, the next most dreamed subject, according to the survey, was snakes.

Through the searches people wanted to know what it meant to see a snake in their dreams. However, it’s hard to determine a specific reason behind the vision as the dreams of every individual are driven by different factors.

But, snake is a popular dream symbol widely associated with transformation and rebirth.

Dreams about teeth falling out

The third on the list is dreams about teeth falling out. Again, there are different interpretations of losing your teeth in sleep, including its association with loss and significant life changes, as Healthline notes.

One can also have dreams about losing their teeth while dealing with dental health issues or from damaging them accidentally.

Intimate dreams and nightmares

Explicit dreams and nightmares share the same slot as the survey found these were the most generic searched dream-related terms after falling teeth.

While nightmares can be your mind’s reaction to something traumatic or a disturbing thought, intimate dreams are believed to symbolize union or deeper connections and more without having to always do with physical intimacy as Very Well Mind explains.

Night Terror

Unlike nightmares, night terrors occur during the first half of the sleep cycle. It is a sleeping disorder that causes a person to quickly wake up from sleep in a terrified state.

A Johns Hopkins Medicine blog states night terrors can be triggered by stress, emotional tension, conflict and other factors.
