'One thing we didn't expect to see': Sky pundit says £54m Manchester City player was truly 'magnificent' tonight

Manchester City made the most of their first game in hand as they thrashed Brighton on Thursday night.

Pep Guardiola’s Citizens charges had two games in hand on both Liverpool and current Premier League leaders Arsenal.

Manchester City are now second in the table, leapfrogging Jurgen Klopp’s charges, and will fancy their chances of jumping above the Gunners too.

Kevin De Bruyne opened the scoring in style at the Amex Stadium, diving in to connect with Kyle Walker’s delivery and send a brilliant header into the top corner on 17 minutes.

Phil Foden then doubled Manchester City’s lead on 26 minutes, whipping a free kick into the net via a Pascal Gross deflection.

The England international then got his second of the night just eight minutes later, firing a loose ball home after Bernardo Silva charged down a Valentin Barco pass.

Manchester City then added the cherry on top just after the hour as Julian Alvarez ended his goal drought by firing in on the rebound after Jason Steele slid in on Walker

Guardiola’s charges keep marching on, and Sky Sports pundit Jamie Redknapp was stunned by what he saw from one of the visiting players.

We’re talking, of course, about De Bruyne, who scored his first ever Premier League header and set City on their way.

What has Jamie Redknapp said about Manchester City star Kevin De Bruyne?

“We’ve seen the full repertoire from this guy over the years,” Redknapp said of the £54million man on Sky Sports.

“But one thing we didn’t expect to see was a Robin van Persie-style diving header!

“City have been magnificent. I thought this was a really tricky game for them today but they’ve just dispatched Brighton, who’ve not got near them.”

De Bruyne really is the gift that keeps on giving, and he may well have just set City on their way to the first ever fourth title in a row in English football.
