Defendant Donald Trump sat through another day of the prosecution's witness, National Enquirer head honcho David Pecker, continue to lay out how the supermarket tabloid served as an aggressive sentry to prevent Trump's alleged sultry secrets from seeing the light of day, and also as a political pitbull against political adversaries.

Conservative lawyer George Conway went on CNN to say that the testimony was especially "damaging" and "damning" against the former president because it provided a map on how Trump used the the publication and money to illegally influence the 2016 presidential election.

At one point Pecker said he told Trump's former fixer and attorney Michael Cohen (who is now a witness for the prosecution): "We committed a campaign violation."

"This is this is why Pecker is such a powerful witness, because basically what happened with Stormy Daniels was set in motion by the original scheme that was set up using The National Enquirer, where The National Enquirer would essentially be used used to pay off people, to buy off people," he said. "So that negative stories wouldn't be published about Donald Trump... but they did for the same purpose as as the original payments or through AMI — it was the same purpose that Cohen financed himself and then got reimbursed for the payments and Stormy Daniels, it was to affect the election."

It's Pecker's link to the election finance piece of the case that Conway thinks could do Trump in.

"It's damaging testimony because the fact that there is a campaign in finance violation is what kicks up the business records charge from a misdemeanor to a felony and that's what could get Donald Trump jail time," Conway said Thursday.
