McDonald's is selling a vegetable ice cream, and it actually looks nice

McDonald’s recently started selling an ice cream flavored with sweet potato, and it looks surprisingly tasty.

The cold treat is available at the fast food chain in Singapore, but there are no plans to launch it in the United States.

McDonald’s sweet potato ice cream

McDonald’s first launched the sweet potato ice cream in Hong Kong in 2016, and it then made its way to Singapore in 2019. Now, it’s back on the menu for a limited time.

The light purple dessert infuses the food giant’s classic creamy soft-serve ice cream with the rich flavour of purple sweet potato.

Purple sweet potatoes are a vivid violet color and have origins in Asia, specifically the Philippines.

“Rich and creamy soft-serve in a perfectly crispy cone – our new purple sweet potato treats are a delight for all the senses!” McDonald’s Singapore wrote on Instagram.

There are loads of options that combine the sweet potato ice cream with all kinds of toppings, including a Purple Sweet Potato OREO McFlurry.

Other options include a Purple Sweet Potato Hot Fudge Sundae and Purple Sweet Potato Strawberry Sundae.

You can also order the soft serve in a regular cone, or top it with a rich chocolate coating called a ChocoCone.

People in Singapore say the ice cream tastes lovely and sweet, not like you’re eating a cold portion of sweet potato fries.

Another vegetable-flavored dessert

The sweet potato ice cream isn’t the only vegetable-flavored dessert on offer at McDonald’s in Singapore right now.

They are also selling a Taro Custard Pie, with chunks of sweet taro in a creamy custard filling, all inside a pastry crust.

If you’re not familiar, taro is another root vegetable similar to sweet potato that’s white in color and popular across Asia.

The savory items available right now include Nori Shoyu Shaka Shaka Chicken McBites, which come with a special seasoning packet, and a Creamy Mushroom Double Cheeseburger with a layer of juicy grilled mushrooms in a rich black pepper mayo.
