'He is the main man': Gabby Agbonlahor says 23-year-old Man City player is now ‘world-class’

Gabby Agbonlahor has said that one Manchester City star is now a world-class player.

Last night saw the Citizens take a step towards potentially winning a fourth Premier League title in a row by beating Brighton & Hove Albion 4-0 away from home.

The next morning, one pundit and former top-flight player highlighted one particular City figure for not only what he did against the Seagulls last night but what he’s been doing throughout the entire season.

Speaking on talkSPORT, Agbonlahor had this to say about Phil Foden, including his star performance in last night’s win at Brighton, after picking him as his number one Premier League player at the moment.

He said: “Number 1, he is out on his own – Phil Foden. Phil Foden is world-class.

“16 Premier League goals, he is the main man now. In previous seasons, it has been [Kevin] De Bruyne who has been the main main.

“You look at Phil Foden now, even yesterday he was taking the free kicks. He is taking big free kicks now in games.

“He has been outstanding. He can play anywhere across the front-line, he can even play as a false nine.”

Phil Foden has been on fire this season

Foden scored the second and third goals for Pep Guardiola’s side last night, with his first being from a free-kick, as Agbonlahor mentioned.

These two goals have taken his total for the season to 24 in 48 games across all competitions, providing 10 assists along the way as well.

Earlier this month, Guardiola said that the 23-year-old should be considered to be named as the Premier League’s Player of the Season based on his performances throughout the campaign.

Those performances have earned the Englishman an overall season rating of 7.52/10 from WhoScored, making him the fourth-highest-rated player in the division.

While Foden has had a stunning campaign so far, we feel that to make sure he gets named as the Player of the Season, he needs to add even more goals to his tally and help his side win the Premier League title.
