Alison Hammond has opened up about a scary incident where she confronted a thief trying to steal her shopping bag.

During Friday's instalment of This Morning, Alison, 49, and co-host Dermot O'Leary discussed the topic: "Shoplifting at highest since records began" with the show's news panellists.

This prompted Alison to say: "I've actually witnessed a theft in one of my shops near me and it was actually against me. I left my shopping bag in the trolley and just turned to have a look at some food, something said in me: 'Turn around'.

"I turned around and someone had their hand in my bag! I was like: 'Not today, Satan!' and they walked off!" asked if the thief ran away, Alison added: "Oh they absolutely did, because I said: 'Not today, Satan!', I don't know what it was, I just had this inkling they were stealing from me!"

Elsewhere, Alison was forced to spit out food live on Friday's This Morning as a segment went wrong. During the latest instalment, Alison and co-host Dermot were teasing the upcoming schedule, where they revealed the show would be looking at how baking cakes don't have to be complicated.

This prompted Dermot, 50, to grab one of the cake's toppings as he said: "Do you reckon you can catch one of these in your mouth?" to which Alison insisted: "Absolutely, do a good one though!"

Dermot then threw an item from one of the cakes to which Alison managed to catch it in her mouth but the host was soon left panicked as she hadn't realised it was in fact a chocolate covered coffee bean. A puzzled Alison said: "What is it?" to which it was revealed it was a chocolate covered coffee bean.

Alison was quick to declare: "Oh, it's horrible! Why would you even give me that?" with Dermot protesting: "I didn't know what it was, I thought it was a raisin or something!" Alison added: "Oh gosh, get me a tissue! You've literally just given me a coffee bean, who would want a coffee bean? Oh, that's absolutely disgusting!" The presenter then had to spit out the coffee bean live on air to which Dermot added: "I'm so sorry, I'm absolutely mortified!"
