Vardy dropped, 21-year-old starts: Leicester predicted XI vs Preston as Maresca makes two changes - opinion

Leicester City travel to Deepdale to face Preston North End on Monday evening.

It could be a historic day for Enzo Maresca‘s side when they travel to Lancashire, as a win would see them promoted back to the Premier League.

The Foxes extended their lead to four points at the summit of the Championship table after their five-star display against Southampton.

Abdul Fatawu stole the show with an emphatic hat-trick and he’ll be desperate to continue that form and add to his seven-goal tally against North End.

With that said, Leicester City Newshas predicted Maresca’s lineup for the clash and provided all the latest team and injury news.

Harry Souttar remains the only injury concern ahead of City’s trip to Deepdale, as he continues to nurse a knock which he sustained on international duty with Australia in March.

Ricardo Pereira started on the bench against West Bromwich Albion last weekend, with Maresca admitting he needs to be managed carefully after his injury.

Though, he started against Southampton and is expected to retain his place on Monday.

Mads Hermansen will assume his usual place between the sticks but there could be a change ahead of him in the back four.

Callum Doyle could replace James Justin at left-back to add more balance playing out from the back, as Doyle is the only left-footed defender at the club.

Maresca wasn’t pleased with City’s lack of control against West Brom and Southampton, so he could start the Manchester City loanee to help keep the ball more.

Pereira, Wout Faes and Jannik Vestergaard will likely make up the rest of the defence.

Moving into midfield, Wilfred Ndidi, Harry Winks and Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall remain an unchanged three, though, Dennis Praet, who has impressed in cameos lately, may get the nod.

Surely, after his three goals against Saints, Fatawu will retain his place even with Maresca hinting that he may be dropped.

Stephy Mavididi has been the mainstay out on the left and that isn’t expected to change here.

Up front, Jamie Vardy could drop out. The 37-year-old has only started three consecutive league games twice this season, so Maresca may replace him with Tom Cannon up against his former club.

Cannon will be desperate to make an impression having barely featured this term.

Leicester City (4-3-3): Hermansen; Pereira, Faes, Vestergaard, Doyle; Ndidi, Winks, Dewsbury-Hall; Fatawu, Cannon, Mavididi.
