Car crash on Route 9 leaves 1 dead, 1 hurt

One person was killed and another was injured in a crash involving a car and an SUV early Thursday on Route 9 in Manalapan, authorities said.

The crash took place at 4:30 a.m. at the highway’s intersection with Ryan Road, the Monmouth County Prosecutor’s Office said.

A woman driving a car died of her injuries in an area hospital, officials said. Her identity was not released pending family notification. The man driving the SUV was hospitalized with minor injuries, authorities said.

The crash remains under investigation.
